God’s love is unlike anything we know here upon this earth. His love blankets our shame. He covers all that was exposed through sin and once again clothes us in righteousness and dignity. But for most of us, as we come into a true relationship with Jesus, we know nothing about receiving from him. We do not understand that his desire is to free us from all that has entangled. Yes, we are forgiven, but Father wants us to know that his love will free us from the very effects that sin has imprinted upon our souls. It’s called sanctification. Our spirit-man is healed and restored in greater measure as we continually partake of the life given through the Holy Spirit.

Those first months of being saved were very intense. The Lord surrounded me with his presence in a powerful way. I would sit and read the Bible for hours. The words seemed to leap off the page. The experience was so consuming that I found it difficult to sleep. If his presence seemed to wane at all, I would beg him to stay with me. I knew nothing about his faithfulness toward me. All I knew is that he was real, I could feel him, and hear him deep within as I read his word.

I would walk everyday so I could spend time praying. On several occasions in my car driving, I remember how the birds flying over would evoke such strong emotion within me. I was so touched by the freedom they exhibited that I would pull my car to the side of the road and watch them soar. Sitting at the lake, listening to the waves, was another favorite past-time. I would sit for hours and cry. Not the kind of crying that comes from anguish, but the kind that cleanses – the kind that heals.
